Companion Care

Support, Connection, and Peace of Mind — Right at Home

At One on One Care, we know that caring for a loved one is about more than meeting physical needs — it’s about keeping them connected, engaged, and emotionally supported. Our Companion Care services provide meaningful interaction and reliable support for seniors who may feel isolated, lonely, or in need of a friendly, consistent presence at home.

We’re not a national franchise with corporate policies and call centers. We are a local, family-owned company serving Central and Northern Virginia since 1998 — founded by Charles Murray, who believed deeply in helping others live fuller, happier lives at home. That belief continues to guide every caregiver we hire and every family we serve.

What Companion Care Includes

Our companion caregivers offer the day-to-day support that helps your loved one feel connected, valued, and safe at home. Services may include:

  • Warm conversation and meaningful interaction
  • Light activities such as games, hobbies, or crafts
  • Walks, exercise, and light mobility assistance
  • Meal preparation and shared mealtimes
  • Help with errands, appointments, and transportation
  • Medication reminders
  • Safety checks and general supervision
  • Encouragement, emotional support, and companionship

Whether your loved one lives alone, has recently lost a spouse, or simply needs someone there to brighten the day, our caregivers provide comfort and connection that make a real difference.

Why Companion Care Matters

Loneliness and isolation can be just as harmful to a senior’s health as physical limitations. A consistent, caring presence can:

  • Improve mood and overall well-being
  • Promote mental and emotional health
  • Encourage routines that support independence
  • Reduce the risk of falls or accidents
  • Provide daily encouragement, purpose, and structure
  • Help your loved one stay safely at home longer

With One on One Care, you can feel confident knowing your loved one is spending time with a caregiver who truly cares — someone who shows up with kindness, patience, and genuine interest.

Why Families Choose One on One Care

Families choose us because we offer something the national franchises can’t:
a personal, community-rooted approach to senior care.

  • Local, family-owned — not a franchise
  • Serving Virginia families since 1998
  • Consistent caregivers who build real relationships
  • Compassionate team rooted in Charles Murray’s legacy
  • Leadership you can reach directly — no 1-800 numbers
  • Flexible scheduling and personalized care plans
  • Affordable private-pay rates
  • Caregivers who live and work in the same communities you do

Your loved one deserves more than a rotating list of caregivers. They deserve people who genuinely care — and who will be here for the long run.

Medicaid Services

Medicaid Services

If you are seeking care for an elderly loved one or a loved one with a disability, you may be eligible for a Medicaid waiver. Medicaid waivers allow qualified individuals to receive care services in their homes rather than being placed in a nursing facility. To qualify for a Medicaid waiver in the State of Virginia, you must meet a list of eligibility requirements.

Eligibility:

To determine whether you or your loved one qualifies for a Medicaid waiver, contact your local Department of Family Services Office to begin the eligibility process. The following is an overview of the Medicaid waiver process for new recipients:

  • To be eligible for a Medicaid waiver, a Medicaid Long Term Care Screening is required to assess the functional capacity of the individual.
  • For those who are not receiving Medicaid benefits, an Application for Adult Medical Assistance will need to be completed and sent to the care recipient’s local Department of Social Services office.
  • Once both financial and functional eligibility have been determined, an in-home assessment will be scheduled with a social worker and nurse from the Virginia Department of Health.
  • An approval decision is made within 45 calendar days of the in-home and financial assessment.
  • Once you have been approved for the waiver, One on One Care can start services for you right away. Have your social worker send your paperwork to us, and we will contact you to schedule an in-home assessment to determine which services are right for you.

At One on One Care, we are registered as a provider for:

  • Personal Care and Respite Care (CCC+ Waiver)
  • Developmental Disabilities (DD Waiver)

Do You Want to Change Your Provider Agency?

Are you receiving in-home care via a Medicaid waiver and want to transfer your care to another in-home care agency? You have the right to use any agency you wish. Transferring your services to our agency is simple. Contact your current agency, alert them that you would like to transfer your care to One on One Care and ask them to send us the documents needed for your transfer.

Please contact us at 540-288-1300 if you have any questions about the care transfer process.
